Seadrift Operations Site Leader — Bart Gliatta
2005 marked Seadrift Operations’ best year ever. As you’ll see in our Public Report, the site had record performance in environmental, health and safety. While we haven’t reached our ultimate goal of zero injuries and illnesses, the site reduced its injuries by nearly half. In addition, over the last year, the site cut its leaks, breaks and spills by a third, and continues to reduce emissions.
Energy costs continue to rise, and our efforts in energy conservation have resulted in a 30% reduction in energy use per pound over the last ten years.
In 2005, we saw two major hurricanes hit the gulf coast, and Seadrift Operations was fortunate to be out of the path of these storms. Our employees stepped up to help those affected by the storm damage by collecting food and resources to help both our Dow colleagues in Louisiana, as well as the visitors who came into our communities with so little. In addition, site employees contributed nearly $100,000 to the United Way campaign.
As I write this, I am preparing to move to a new assignment within The Dow Chemical Company. As you can see from the results, the employees of Seadrift Operations do great work, and I thank each and every employee for their dedication and “can-do” spirit. I also appreciate the continued support of our neighboring communities.

Letter from the New Site Leader — David Pankratz
Let me begin by thanking you for taking the time to look through our 2005 Seadrift Operations Public Report. I hope you will find it both informative and refreshing.
As of this writing, I am probably the newest member of the Seadrift Operation’s family since the recent announcement of Bart’s move to a new role within Dow.
Rest assured that our site’s commitment to excellence in environmental, health and safety performance will remain our primary focus. I know this because even though my arrival is relatively new and my exposure to the people that work here still fresh; each and everyone that I have met here at Seadrift Operations truly reflects a dedication that is the “culture” of The Dow Chemical Company and its subsidiaries.
We, as your neighbors, are proud to call Calhoun County our home and privileged to responsibly manufacture many of the products that enhance the quality of life throughout the globe.
